Mikel Oyarzabal scored a late winner, leading to widespread complaints from England fans on social media after the final whistle.
Following the match, Van der Vaart shared his views on the Spain vs. England clash and did not hold back.
He harshly criticized Declan Rice, calling him “useless” during an attack on Dutch television.
“€100M for Declan Rice. What does he do? He comes to collect a ball only to pass it back to John Stones. He is useless,” he declared. “If you are truly worth €100M, then you should be able to play a ball forward.”
The Arsenal player, who was a crucial figure under Mikel Arteta last season, started every game for England at Euro 2024.
Van der Vaart also commented on Jude Bellingham, who assisted Cole Palmer’s equalizing goal.
The former Premier League star questioned Bellingham’s ability to play as a No.10.
On Bellingham, he said: “Jude Bellingham is not someone who’s there for the smooth touches, he’s just a strong lad who keeps going 90 minutes long. The number 10 on his back is debatable.
“Sure, he can wear a number 10, but for me he is not a number 10.”
